Ever really wanted something? Well, I guess you could say there’s something I really want now. Yesterday, I was here:
I remember going to Broadway shows when I was little (first one – “Beauty and The Beast” – stretch limo with family, something business related for my dad) and being blown away by all of the shiny bright lights. After interning there last summer, I began to understand the lifestyle. The “I know you love my heels but I actually wear my flip-flops to commute through the subways,” “avoiding high-tourism areas by all costs” “I run along the Hudson before work” … mentality.
When I walk out of GCS, I feel how I want to feel – ALL of the time. And after my visit yesterday – I’m hoping that maybe, just maybe, that dream will come true within the next six months.
… rant over, now a bit of a foodie recap from the past 24 hours:
Before I coincided with the Empire State yesterday, I headed for the griddle again. A repeat from last week, pancakes it was. However, I decided to go the banana route. Whole wheat banana pancakes with blueberries – yum yum in my tum – and SO filling, I couldn’t eat the littlest one on the top of the stack!
After not eating all day, I was more than excited to meet up with a good friend of mine at McFadden’s Restaurant and Bar. Little did we know, McFadden’s hosts “Ladies Night” on Wednesdays – and coincidentally ladies drink free from six to eight. Despite the free bevvies, I HAD to get some nourishment. After feasting on a turkey burger (removed the bun), we strolled across the wooden divider and enjoyed a good brew (Sam Adams Summer Ale, to be exact!) and then hopping on the train.
Cue exhaustion, snuggling in a two-seater, dozing off and waking up 5 minutes before my stop. By the time I finally pulled back onto South Street, I was beyond tired – and crashed.
Woke up this morning to low-fat raspberry cheesecake yogurt with bananas and blueberries. Just the fuel I needed for a five-miler along the water.
Peaches with cinnamon, a post-run snack. Went to the beach down the street for some quality time with my best friend. The warm sun made us sleepy – and definitely ready for lunch. Opened up the fridge, and we decided a salad would be best. Looking to add some variety to our veggies – we opted to use some chicken and shocker: some shrimp.
The result? A summer salad creation with grilled shrimp, chicken, toasted cashews, grilled peaches, broccoli, tomato and romaine – obviously topped with my favorite sesame ginger dressing!
I’m itching to go on a hike, and the cooler temperatures make perfect for some exploring. What are the best things to bring along on a hike? And do you have a favorite dressing or salad topper that I should try?
Oh – and an excerpt for you from “Little Bee,” my newest read! Enjoy:
I ask you right here please agree with me that a scar is never ugly. That is what the scar makers want us to think. But you and I, we must make an agreement to defy them. We must see all scars as beauty. Okay? This will be out secret. Because take it from me, a scar does not form on the dying. A scar means, I survived.
