I feel like there are a whole slew of places I need to go here in the city. NEED. You know, the ones everyone says you have to hit once. Yeah, I’m slacking on the posting of my official “To-do” list, but it’s because I’ve been so busy actually doing.
Between Saturday and last night, I visited/ did two things on my big list: Visit The Standard Biergarten & Grill, and go to a Knicks game. I think it’s safe to say that these are two pretty solid rites of passage if you’re a New Yorker.
The Standard Biergarten in the Meatpacking District is essentially a fashion show where you spend $8 per beer. You buy a whole slew of $8 tickets when you walk in, and they’re are good for one beer, a pretzel, or an assortment of wieners (I laugh). The crowd was uber well dressed, preptastic, and if I had to guess — mainly in their upper 20’s to mid 30’s.
FYI: beer was yummers (I had their lightest ale which the bartender compared to a Stella).
I can think of a certain friend or two who would DIE for these pretzels.
… so yeah, that was fun. Recommend it? Yes. I recommend going next door to the Standard Grill more, where I ate the most amazing grilled octopus EVER and an amazing cobb salad.
Then, there was the Knicks game Monday night.
I’ve been to Madison Square Garden before, but only for smaller-time things like UConn games and concerts. So when my dad told me he got tickets through work, I was pumped. The vibe in the place was electric. I’ve never ACTUALLY enjoyed a basketball game so much before … I’m sure it didn’t hurt that I had some stellar professionally ballin’ eye candy. That, and the amount of A-listers courtside was pretty ridiculous (See Trump below).
Even the $11.25 box of chicken tenders and fries we got were delish. On a sidenote: I don’t think I’ve let myself order chicken tenders and fries in YEARS. Screw it, this is New York.
So what’s next the next big thing on my to-do list? I’m thinking Sweet Revenge, a boutique cupcake shop where they pair cakes with beer and wine. I’m pretty sure that’s what they call heaven.
