Summer in the kitchen

My favorite time to be in the kitchen is probably summer. Don’t get me wrong, I eat pumpkin in excess in the fall and love finding ways to incorporate it into every meal (see pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin hot chocolate). But something about summer cooking is just … refreshing.

I love when all of my favorite veggies come into season and the street carts are back and in all of their cheap goodness. I adore the vibrant flavors and the abundant use of seafood. Speaking of seafood, if anyone can explain to me why a bag of pre-cooked frozen shrimp costs $30 here in the city and $13.99 at home, I’d love to hear it.

Anyway. Summer cooking. It just feels more my speed. Healthier. Happier.

Which is why I’ve compiled a whole slew of delectable recipes that NEED to be made this summer. Kind of like I need to go see the new Superman in theaters. I figured hey, since summer is prime time for the NYC to-do list, why not add a sublist of sorts for must-cook recipes? It’s about time I broke in that new Anthropologie apron, anyway.
